Mark Briscoe
studied the art of traditional Indian miniature painting in the city of
Udaipur, situated in the Northern Indian state of Rajasthan.
He studied
under the guidance of R. K. Sharma; a renowned miniaturist living in
Udaipur who taught him the fundamental techniques of Indian painting.
After spending many months learning with Sharma, Briscoe went on to
develop some highly original techniques of his own that have a dazzling
effect and lend themselves perfectly to the classical themes of Indian
art.
He has worked
on a number of prestigious projects including some murals in the Juhu
beach residence of Rajesh Shah, the owner of Mukand steel in Bombay. He
also spent some time working on several projects at the palatial Poona
residence of Sri Mataji Nirmala Devi. There he painted some more murals
and a very large ceiling painting in one of the main halls displaying a
colourful floral network of spiralling arabesques, a project which took
several months with a large team of artists.
In 1998 he was commissioned some works for Lord Swaraj Paul who, as
Guest of honour, opened Briscoe's exhibition at the Nehru Centre in
Mayfair, London. It was organised by Ramola Bachchan, the sister-in-law
of the Indian Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, she has organised
several exhibitions of his work through her Knightsbridge based company
RB Promotions. Briscoe's works may today be found in private art
collections throughout the world.
The
Indian paintings of Mark Drake-Briscoe are in the style of kangra
valley, kishangar, mughal ( mugal ) Rajasthani art of India. Fine art
from India.
